Beginning this academic year, first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students throughout Tamil Nadu's 700-plus arts and science institutions – government, aided, and self-financing – will study a unified curriculum.
The uniform curriculum would be followed by all 10 state universities and the institutions that fall under them from 2023 to 2024, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy said. He stated that all universities will have a 100% common English and Tamil curriculum, while other topics will have at least 75% common syllabus, after meeting with Vice Chancellors of the universities.
This plan is still being critiqued by academicians and professors as the strategy would challenge the autonomy, creativity and unique resources employed by institutions.
