Loyola College, Nungambakkam, is a name that inspires many shops in and around that area. Amidst the many Loyola variants, is the latest “Loyla Cafe Restaurant”.
Loyola college is named after Iñigo López de Loyola, a Spanish theologian, who was also the founder of the Society of Jesus. This inspired the college to be named after him, which in turn inspired many shops in the area to be named “Loyola”. Since the name is familiar to local residents and students, these shops get popular quickly. Locals have seen variants of Loyola such as “Loyola Fruit Shop”, “Loyola Ceramics” (temporarily closed), and “A Jafer Loyola R Basha Mutton and Chicken Stall” on Choolaimedu High Road.
In addition to these shops, a new “Loyla Cafe Restaurant” has opened in Sowrashtra Nagar. Since it is close to the college, students from Loyola College have made the restaurant their new hangout spot after college.
