Six districts listed as having agricultural drought issues in TN

Six districts have been declared to be substantially affected by drought by the State administration. Moderate agricultural drought-impacted areas are those where crop loss is greater than 33% as a result of inadequate rainfall throughout the North East Monsoon 2022 season from October 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022. Twenty five blocks in the Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Virudhunagar districts have been designated as moderate agriculture drought-affected areas, according to Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management) Kumar Jayant. The authority gave the State Relief Commissioner the go-ahead to implement necessary relief measures. "The agricultural operation would suffer and the level of the groundwater will drop if the monsoon goes below a particular percentage. This will cause a hydrological drought this summer. When such a circumstance occurs, the government will proclaim such regions to be drought-affected,” stated a senior agricultural department official.
