The Western Dance Club (WDC) of WCC is one of the most happening clubs both inside and outside campus. The club has been officially renamed as GEN-W after its mind-blowing achievements post COVID-19 lockdown.
“From WDC to GEN-W, people are saying it is a coping mechanism to make them realise that we have finally gained our identity. It’s nothing but the cohesion of engrossment and the great exertion of every specific person which clasped the team together,“ says one of the teammates.
At first, the girls were trained by one of the students of WCC. Later, it was handed over to B-FAB crew. Currently, the team is trained by choreographer Sandy Sundar and assistant choreographers Christy Dilip and Gawtham. The girls are trained every day after college hours and during weekends. They are mostly trained in the studio, High on Dance. The club coordinators hold auditions every year and the selected members are brought together as a team during the academic year and sometimes even after they leave college. In the first six months of the academic year, the team gets trained and moulded, while also performing in college. Then the team starts participating in inter-college events. This club is popular in college entertainment circles because they can bring the whole crowd together as a family.

They have bagged numerous awards from other colleges in the past such as first place in JIPMER Pondicherry, Vels Institute of Science and Technology, Madras Institute of Technology, SRM Kattankulathur, and second place in Anna University, Chennai Institute of Technology, Shiv Nadar College of Engineering, Jeppiar Engineering College, and Ethiraj College for Women, among other prestigious institutions.
WDC is a fun and energetic team, yet they have their share of ups and downs. The team undergoes rigorous practice sessions almost every day that drains their energy levels. All members in the team support and motivate each other. They get injured during practice but despite the discomfort, they continue to compete with passion. Not every member’s family is supportive and yet they give their best to their team. Though they undergo several challenges, they succeed by sticking together and bringing out the best in each other.
