Challenging gender norms as a student at WCC

In the hallowed and timeless halls of academia, a quiet yet profound revolution is taking place. It is not confined to classrooms or buried in books, but is a movement fueled by the aspirations and actions of women students who are challenging age-old gender norms. Students at WCC are reshaping the landscape of women's education and demanding their rightful place as architects of the future. They are dismantling stereotypes and shattering glass ceilings using their voices, actions and pens. These women create a remarkable impact on a society that thrives on traditional expectations.

Women in India have played multifaceted roles, balancing family and work life for many generations. They challenge gender inequality and take bold strides towards women’s empowerment by pursuing higher education and gaining autonomy over their lives. Women in WCC have repeatedly made a mark in all that they have set out to do, through the years, not only in academics but also in college administration, and in the myriad fields that WCC’s daughters have excelled in all over the world for more than a century.

This success is in part due to the remarkable exposure and opportunities that students of WCC receive during their years of study here. They get to participate in various forms of creative expression and art including theatre, dance, singing, painting and writing. Many students of WCC have published books, composed songs, got involved in theatrical compositions and expressed their talents in various ways. The legacy of the College Play of WCC is a good example of this.

Students also participate actively in sports and other extracurricular activities like NCC and NSS, which enables them to go beyond classroom education and receive holistic training. They have challenged the restrictions of society and family against women by pursuing such hardcore activities. They actively participate in activities for the welfare of the community and environment too, by being a part of the Rotaract, Young Indian Club, Eco Club and many more. Students at WCC strive to create a conducive environment for women and form support networks advocating women's rights and activism. They also work for the welfare and health of women and children through community outreach initiatives led by the college.

I would like to conclude by stating that these young women have raised their voices, undeterred by societal expectations and biases. These women showcase a path that dismantles the ill effects of gender inequality with sheer determination and hard work. They create a brand new narrative by stepping forward and inspiring others to challenge and question the status quo. The women at WCC are a reminder of the fact that in this collective journey, each voice counts. They are truly the architects of the future.
