A Meet-the-Author event with Mr Bava Chelladurai took place on 19th September in the main auditorium from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. This event was organised by the Chennai Students’ Readers Forum (CSRF) in collaboration with WCC and the Departments of English Shift 1 and 2. The event was attended by students of both departments and members of CSRF, WCC. Mr Chelladurai is a Tamil writer, storyteller and actor. In his address Mr Chelladurai spoke about stories and snippets from his own life, which lightened the hearts of the audience. He had no issues about making jokes from his own life situations and students loved the rawness and honesty with which he put out thoughts from his stories.
His tales were relatable to the audience too and had everyone rolling with laughter. The story about his rival classmate at school and college, peppered with suspense, had the audience thinking there’d be a happy twist at the end. But Mr Chelladurai made a swift transition into a sad reality that nobody saw coming. The classmate who he had envied his whole life and tried to win against, was forced to get married to a much older man. This came as a shocker which left the audience stunned to silence with the realisation that this is the reality of many women in our country.
After this story the students were hooked to the words of the expert storyteller, as the session got more interesting and he began to explore human nature, bringing in characters from all walks of life. Overall the students had positive feedback about the event. “I was particularly fond of how hilarious, engaging and poignant Mr Chelladurai was at the same time during his talk,” said Diya Deekshita, III English.
