WCC has always been a step ahead in maintaining a green campus and promoting eco-friendly practices. On 21st September, Eco Club Shift I, conducted a campaign aiming for three causes, animal conservation (in particular elephants and bees), ozone protection, and zero emission. To raise awareness among students, the Eco Club strategically captured the audience’s attention and delivered their message. The campaign began with members of the club forming a circle in front of Doveton and holding hands. While this captured a good number of people’s attention, it was the flash mob that enticed the audience. The students performed a choreography to the accompaniment of nature-related songs representing three elements of nature.
Before the campaign day, a college-wide slogan writing competition was held. The topics were “Protect Ozone”, “Save Wildlife” and “Erase Carbon Footprint”. This competition was held with the motive to educate students about the current crisis by commemorating these Days and raising awareness. After the flash mob, students rallied around the college shouting the slogans selected from the competition. Students were seen holding up posters related to Bee Day, i.e., posters showing the role played by bees in our ecosystem and ways to conserve them. They were also seen wearing animal eye masks, especially elephants, to call attention to the need to save them. Students who were not members of the Eco club also joined the rally.
Overall, the campaign was a great success and captured the audience’s attention well.“It was exactly how we planned the campaign. The OBs are elated with the outcome,” concluded the Vice President of Eco Club.
For years, the Eco Club of WCC has strived to improve the environment, and to make the college and the society greener and cleaner.
